Default Your Own Scents

hey guys, i have a question. there are many scents out on the market that you can use but i thought could you make your own? i heard somewhere that garlic (and salt ?) is an attractant. so i figured you could get some garlic and make it into a mush warm it up and put it in a bag with the bait. could this work ? thnx for any advice.

Search for the thread on "Garlic Spray". I asked almost the same question and got tons of recipes and ideas on whether scents work or not

Some of the best scents can come from experimenting, just go in the kitchen one day and start mixing and matching, eventually you'll find something that works like a champ... [its doesnt all have to consist of garlics and salts... try the sweeter side for a change]

I also like anise oil, which is in alot of scents they sell. It's what they make black licorice out of, I think it's really to kill human smell though.

I dont know, fish dont really... 'smell' to much, if you think about it, scent in this case is more of the flavor of the lure... garlic... salt... all tastes. I think the idea is 1) when the fish hits your lure, the 'scent' keeps them from throwing it back out, increasing the hook set ratio... and 2) a marketing gimmick to increase confidence in fishermen... just my 2 cents though.

2 cups hot tapwater, 2 heaping tablespoons garlic powder, one teaspoon salt...mix well and pour into baggies of soft plastics, enough to wet them well. Re-seal baggies and float on top a pail of hot tapwater for 20 minutes to a half hour. Re-open baggies and drain off excess and re-seal. Take fishing the next day. If the little bit of liquid in each baggie dries out, that's OK.

Being water-based, this scent actually penetrates the plastics and will work well for a long, long time.
