What to do?
Hello everyone. New to this site, first post. Anyway I am going to lake Marion this weekend and was wondering if anyone would help me with what type of bait to use, and what depth might be good to fish in this time of year. Can,t fish to deep, Marion is down pretty low right now. Thanks for any advice.

Its getting real close to spawn season, they will be moving up shallow pretty soon. Look for shallow water with deep water access, they will be transitioning from the channels to the flats. Now is a good time to start chunkin crank baits, flukes, spinner baits, etc. Brush hogs are really good for those that have already transitioned

Welcome to the site, Ripper!
Like Justice said, the Spawn is just around the corner, so be looking for bass on areas that are close to shallow and deep water. Mainly areas where fish can go from dep to shallow to feed, yet get back to deep water in a hurry. I'd personally try a Drop Shot or PNJ around the drop-off's. -Lunk-

Rip,
Just checking but you're referring to Marion as in Santee-Cooper? If you are then with the water being down then most of the cypress trees will be either out of the water or very shallow. I'd find a creek like Jack's creek and work the creek channel and try to find whatever Cypress trees that had water. If there isn't and (how low is the water?) then you may end up fishing the standing timber which is a little more difficult. Baits to use.....stick to tried and true....crankbaits, 6" worms or lizards, and PnJ and see what's biting. If the bass are tough then fish for bluegill and sunfish. They've got monster's in that lake!!! And always be careful of the gators. |

I'd go with a suspending Jerkbait. Rapala Husky Jerks, Smithwick Suspendin' Rogue, XCalibur Xs4. Those will work good if you work them near drop-offs for vertical structure.
