KVD at the Richmond show
Yep, that's right HE was at the show today and gave a very good talk about how to use the Red Eye and jerk baits to catch spring bass. He even caught one, his first bass of 09, on the trap while explaining how he uses it in colder water. Saw him around signing stuff, shaking hands, and chatting with everyone which was nice to see. A lot of times you never get the big names out on the floor with the folks.
Got a bunch of pics of some great tackle that I didn't buy just to piss off the bait monkey but can't download them right now. I'll see if I can get them up tomorrow. Picked up a couple nice items myself and met some manufacturers which is always interesting. Learned how the tomato core worms are made and got some information about dyes and formula trading within the business. Good stuff. Got my Flippin Weights that I needed. Grabbed a couple packs of Deep Creek Lures 10" worms. Grabbed a Magic Swimmer before they sold out (B.M. made me do it!). Still haven't seen the Bonga Jerk yet. Picked up a Kermie Jr in Leopard Frog (new color). Found a Brian's Topwater that set me back a few $$$ but couldn't pass it up. Damn Bait Monkey!!! Got me again. And found some NetBait Mad Paca's too. Total set me back $80 for the day. Hope I get out of there on Sunday with a few $$ in my pocket. Might have to leave the credit card at home. |

i love boat shows and tackle shows. so far the biggest name i have seen this winter is tommy biffle but he gave a great seminar, as did randy blaukat and some other local big shots.

I had visions of it looking different. Alright 3D you gonna give up some insight on the red eyes ? Explain how this Bonga jerk works as well if you would ? My third question is do you think the magic swimmer is going to work throuout the season ? I am definately buying a few, just think they are going to be a herring spawn type thing unless you can find them busting bait on the surface.I hope I 'm wrong. P N J

Red eye insight.....hmmm....not much to say other than toss them out on flats and yo-yo them along. Pretty much what KVD said to do. He likes the 1/2 oz in 8-10' of water and the smaller one in skinny water. The key to the design is the vibration as the bait falls. The more it falls the more action you'll get with it.
I thought the Jerk would be an interesting bait to fish over grass or through the milfoil in April and May. Might drag it along grass edges too. Haven't seen one yet for sale or tried one either. The Swimmer will work in the shallow clear water that I fish in the summer in the evening tournaments I fish. Met Rojas yesterday. Called his new frog a Burpin' Frog. He got a laugh out of it. He's got another new Kermie coming out that is around 1oz. One of the guys I was hanging out with asked if we'd see a Kermie vs Peacock battle any time soon. He said the new one would be perfect for that. |

Smells like bait but I'll bite.Alewife is a herring,You know them fish steaks in hot sauce you eat ? Thems be Herring. You have blue backed and green backed herring.Smelt are also very good tasting baitfish, snipping the head and guts out of them with a pair of scissors and then dipping them in beer batter and to the deep fryer with them until they're golden brown. It seems that bait can eaten by fish or humans, sort of a double edged sword if your the baitfish.
I am hoping the magic swimmer is sold by the millions so I can buy them dirt cheap off ebay by the end of this year. P N J

I really enjoyed KVD's seminar at the show Saterday, but the highlight of my day was bumping into Admin. Kevin at BPS. I hope he didn't mind us rudely interupting his day to introduce ourselves.
