Hi I'm putting together a order at Tackle Warehouse and I was wondering if the Zell pop was any better than the Chug bugs and Pop-r's that I have been throwing? any feed back would be great! thx...

I haven't used the Zell pop yet.I still have a few of the old excalibur super pop r's very simular, but what I have been buying lately is the Megabass Pop-x from Ebay. They are $22.00 normally, but keep bidding on ebay and you can buy them alot cheaper. P N J

I've got 3 of em and can't really tell much dif in the action, however there are some tailfeathers and slight shape diferences from the other rebel popR's.

Sorry? How do you like the Megabass? Do you think they catch more fish or prettier? I'm just starting to buy some of the higher end baits, when I was muskie fishing I had no problem spending 20-25 on a bait just took me a little bit to start spending it on bass baits.

I do think they work better than any other brand I have tried so far.The downfall is Pike will crush them, sometimes the teeth will break the bait.I looked at tackle warehouse, the river 2 sea bait looks like a replica of the Megabass bait. I will have to buy one and compare the two. P N J

It don't make a blub, or pop sound, its more subtle shush sounding, but it throws alot of water. You can walk the dog with it quite easily as well. The Rapala skitter pop is the loudest blub sounding bait I have ever used, but I did not have as good luck with them as I thought I would ? Maybe the water is too clear for a loud blub noise ? P N J

pnj,
i bet if its easy tugs like walking the dog action with the rod tip, it will walk rather than blub and spit, however if you put your rod tip straight down and pull hard for a foot, it will procduce bubbles and
spit like a Norwegian hooker

When I was taught to use a pop-r a few years back I always tried to get the bloop....bloop bloop...... then in mags they talk about the spiting and throwing of water? I have always tried to get the bloop sound out of them?Sometimes I do, sometimes I don't! but they seem to hit the bait all the same. How much stock do you put in color? I have a hard time believing that color is a big factor in top waters.I feel A white belly, a black, and a orange is all you well ever need.I know that the tail sits lower in the water at pause but still can't believe that it would make that much difference. What are your thoughts?

I think its the cadence, and activity level of the fish , not necessarily the color. Then again , if the person really likes the color , he will fish it longer giving it a better chance of catching a fish. P N J

I do believe in having confidence in a certain bait or color, just not having 10 different colors in a top water bait. Here is my favorite bug.

Here are some of my favorite baits. Pop -n-image,splash-it, ricco ,and I have a few thornwood lures.

Then I like the hula popers.

But as you can see I have numerous topwaters to try.

I also have a few sammys, second slot down left side.

You guys ever throw a Don Iovino Splash II?

This one is a kick a$$ bait on the Potomac and James.. Oh and the Chic.

It can walk the dog perfectly and plop with the finnest baits.

you guys really think it makes that much difference. The pop r or spitnimage cant be that much less of a bait than these 25 dollar rip offs. Theyre catching more fisherman thats for sure. The profile from the bottoms is indistinguishable I'd say and the only thing i can really see wrong with em would be the hooks which can be easily changed for cheaper than lucky craft rip off. But thats only my opinion...and Im sometimes a hypocrit. I love zara spooks but I also throw the sammy sometimes but i dont really think it helps much.

Well Adam there is a difference,Its the sound and the colors on the bottom of the baits do differ. As you can see in my pics I have both spitin image and the big buck rip offs as you call em. The sound the baits make when the are poped or blurped is the key. Thats why if im not mistaken the pros used to take the pop-r and sand on the lip thats how the ricco came about because of the sound. It was in either bassmaster or one of my other fishing mags that I read about it. But you are right they do catch fisherman and Im a tackle junkie. Il fish I have a baby spook,Zara puppy, and a few others. Im not sure what there worth.

The "baby zara" is a zara pooch. They sell em at bass pro shops stores...i havent seen em online. Kmart tends to have some as well. Theyre awesome on small creek smallies.
