This is mine. I caught this 9 lber in July of '98. I had toothpicked a bullet about 2' up because I dragging a lot of grass on a point. I was fishing with a 6" Zoom Smokin Blue lizard. The wind was humping that day and I felt something, but I couldn't tell if the boat was moving or my line and I didn't take time to get a bank reference so I just set back. And I was like crap, just a stump and then I started seeing it swim off and I knew it was a big 'un. When the fish rolleb, I bout lost it. I had a citica with the thumb clutch, if you pushed it half way, it would free spool, but the handle wouldn't engage. I was about to freak because I thought my reel was broke, but I finally figured it out. My buddy was hollering at me the whole time not to be horsing the fish, because he had seen me lose my fair share over excitement and just wanting to get my hands on them. So here is my mount. If I ever get one in the double digits, I will probably get a replica though and release it.

nice fish bubba, i caught a 9 3/4 a long time ago. ate it,hehehehe. now i wish i had mounted it. it was over 20 yrs ago. made a promise to myself that i would wait till i got one over 10 pounds. ain't even come CLOSE to that since, hahahaha. the wife caught one last year at 3-11 0z. put it back in the water. she was MAD! wanted it mounted, told her if she got one over 5, we'd mount it. and the way it's going, she'll have one on the wall before i will. think i gotta lower my standards, hehehe.

Here's mine from Lake Saint Clair. I always said I'd get one if it was over 6, and this was but it mainly is a good reminder since my dad came up from Indiana and fished with me and we caught a lot of fish and head a great day. It's a replica a buddy did, he is really good.
(patch is actually for a different fish on an inland lake, since this one was technically in Canadian water) It all comes down to the painting I think and it takes a great artist to make a good mount. Your's looks great Bubba! |

I don't have one but want to know if the repicals are worth doing. Do you just send them a photo or is it just tell what size the fish is?

Global fish mounts all you need is a pic and measurements, and they'll make a mount of it just fine! Catch and release mounts!

That is fine replica Bender. I was fortunate to have late, great, Dick Spencer, a world class taxidermist, perform the mount. Even the inside of the mouth is detailed out. Some people just slam a green, black and white and say they are done. Like Bender said, it's something you want to be proud of the rest of your life. Have a good artist perform any mounts. After seeing a BPS replica, I wouldn't recommend them, it's like everything else done for the people, mass production and out the door. Nitro, I think that is about it for a replica, some good pics, length, and few girth measurements at different intervals.

Yeah, my guy has won some international awards or something a long time ago, I forget. I know he starts with a rectangular block of foam and carves it all himself. He has pictures of lots of fish that he has done over the years so if you don't have all the measurements he can still get real close. Pretty much you just need length, girth, and several pictures. They can even make one off an old pic if you want.

Sounds like a great way to do it. I just don't want to take a biggen out when it could live to be even bigger. Of course I always say if I get one this big() I will make a mount but always increase the pounds when I get my PB. How much does it cost for a good repical? Well roughly of course.

$12-15 per inch is about average, so $250-400 I would guess, depending on the fish.

Bender,
Did you have Joe Siegler from Garden City do your mount? He has in the last nine years won the world championhip for duck/goose mounts. My buddy who I duck hunt with gets all his mounts done there, they're spectacular. Joe does some great fish and small game mounts too. -Buzz |

Here's a trophy. Reeled in by mom, landed by dad (didn't fit in net by the way).
42" Northern Pike, 24-lbs. Caught 'er on a big Kwikfish, chrome color, trolling rock ledges in Georgian Bay, Lake Huron, Canada. -Buzz |

Buzz, is that a jack fish, lol. Just playing, we don't know nothing about them down here. Pretty mount though. And Mont, that is an awesome mount for an end table. If I get a chance, a guy's dad I know, caught 1 @ 13, and 1 @ 14 in 1 day. He had them mounted in a glass case with both of them looking at a worm with lilly pads and the whole sha-bang. He said that is how they looked while he was sight fishing when he pitched on them.

Buzz, nope it was a guy named Tom Wolf who lives up by me. He just does it on the side now I think. And that pike scared me the first time I saw it in real life! That end table idea is really neat, one of my friends has an 8 pound smallie in something similar and I really like it.
