Default 1 am.....

what?.. who?.. how many cookies??... oh dam the alarm clock.. quickly get dressed pull "roamie" out of my knox.met up with "worm dirt" in a secluded location, snatch the jon boat out of the truck. "worm dirt" tosses in a bag of blocks , i toss in a bagged "fay" and "roamie", off we go to a very special place. which we "camp" at till 4 am then start placing blocks in the lighting J fomation..

as time approachs we un-bag "roamie" and "fay" and load up.. a few tweets on mr woody...hmm no answer..

than i spot him barrlin thru the sky with a honey in tow. i snatch up my flaming purple r&m "tramp" and let drive.. hot diggity.. that arkie green and honey throw a hard left to port and come around for a better listen.speak to them ol great purple "tramp".. they drop out of the sky like a brick to hear more of the song of that "tramp"...

as they near our hiding spot and get in good range. "worm dirt" calls the dance zookie warms up with a jaunty lil diddy..oh speak lil "roamie" FIRE IN DA HOLE!!! "roamie" starts shucking silver empties at mach II..that arkie green folds up like he has been struck by thors hammer.. splash... oh mr dirt FETCH!..lol..

hmm that arkie green sure is purty.. back to buziness at hand...

a few tweets on mr woody..and answer..in bound comes the waterfowl version of the zooker - tough as nails, a bit flashy, and drops in with out much notice- how true...

zookie calls this dance. "worm dirt" brings "fay's" two fisted assault in to play. feathers explod twice, that fashion statement in down drawers, skips across the surface of the water..oh mr zookie FETCH!....

10 am approachs..we load up and head to the trucks.worm dirt goes to work. zookie goes home to plucks the ducks.. after a good going over "roamie" goes back into the knox, out comes "cheri".. noon finds zookie heating up "cheri" at paper targets..

now comes the tough choice do i haul "cheri" to my hill top hidout or "tammy". man dats a long haul up dat hill... still i'll guess i'll take "cheri" out for my evening stroll..

i reach my hill top hidout swearing never again to haul "cheri's" heavy but up this hill.that dam cannon empty weighs TWICE as much as "tammy" loaded with eight brass warriors..not to mention "michelle"(pronouced me-shell)and "maria" was trying to haul my drawers down on the hike up to the stand..

as i relax and settle in i notice the apples are nearly gone..dam the squirrels..

4 pm ol zookie is eatin crackers an cheese with potted meat-dew chaser- when a flash at the starboard window draws my attention.. you lil -add favorite cuss word here- a grey tree rat just swipped a saltine. i replace the cracker and point "maria" at it. "lets see ya do dat again" he never showed back up.-a smart tree rat go figure-

5 pm a flurry of squirrels heading out of the corn pile signals the approach of a bigger critter..in walks an old white tail of female design. ol zookie grabs "cheri's" highly crafted vyking birch and rosewood stock. points her down the center lane. the old deer is in the lane around the 240-250 yard mark. fire in da hole..BOOOOM!!! out comes the spent brass warrior in goes a fresh 225 gr brass warrior... the old deer ...wellllll i don't have a need to chase them when that red head speaks..

a stroll down that hill to the truck.grab my four wheeler and zip back to the lane. load the old deer on the back rack. back to the truck. a stop on the way home to "check the deer in" at my favorite tackle shop.-hwy49-
home again for the process and discuss/lie session with "worm dirt"

dump all my gear in the washer-except boots- to make them scent free again.as we are plum anal about that when deer hunting...

da players: yes i named my guns after ex girlfriends..
roamie-a lefty 11-87
worm dirt-he's da bro man..
fay-a ruger 20 gauge-named fer his wife
the tramp-a custom mallard call made of purple heart wood.
cheri- a 338 win mag sako
tammy-a vintage 30-30
michelle an maria- matched pair of long barreled 44 mag wheel guns..

ok so after 22 hours with out sleep i get a bit weird...ya think?? so how has YOUR monday been??

This may just be one of the most interesting stories I've ever heard told....I was lost and had absolutely no idea what you were talking about until I was halfway through, then I figured it out. I only wish my Monday was that exciting/eventful!!

I just gorged myself on a deer ham tonight. My sister's boyfriend killed one the other day and brought us some. Someone had told me about soaking it in buttermilk the night before cooking. I de-boned it and tried it the first time, took it out the butter milk and rinsed it off, put some bacon, onions, and beef fat inside and on top, some garlic salt and pepper, tied it up and roasted it slow. Was gooooooood!

Gotta find some way to talk him into letting me tag along with him sometime.

I love this one....

Venison Parmesan

1 1/2 pounds of venison steak
1 egg beaten
1/3 cup Parmesan cheese
1/3 cup fine bread crumbs
1/3 cup olive oil
1 medium onion, minced
1 tsp. salt
1/4 tsp. pepper
1/2 tsp. marjoram or oregano
1(6 oz.) can tomato paste
2 cups hot water
8 oz. mozzarella cheese, sliced
1 to 1 1/2 pounds cooked spaghetti
Grated Parmesan, Romano and Mozzarella cheeses

Pound venison steak to tenderize and cut in serving pieces. Dip meat in egg and roll in mixture of Parmesan and bread crumbs. Heat oil over medium heat in a heavy skillet and brown meat on both sides until golden brown. Set aside. In the same skillet, cook onion over low heat until soft and stir in spices. Add tomato paste and gradually add hot water, stirring constantly. Boil gently 5 mins. Place meat in a deep casserole and top with the mozzarella. Pour half the sauce over the meat and cheese and top with spaghetti. Add remaining sauce and an additional sprinkling of cheeses. Bake at 350 degrees for 30 minutes.

hmmmmm....interesting sounding....I may have to try some of this for myself, but my wife and daughter hate Parmesan cheese so i'd have to adust the recipe a bit to suit them.....but something about spagetti and venison just sounds weird....lol

I have alot of folks tell me that I need to let the deer meat soak overnite in buttermilk before I try to cook it.....is that pretty much what everyone does or just treat it the same as any cut of meat??

I didn't used to soak it in buttermilk, I just soaked it overnight in vinager before freezing it. But the roast I cooked the other night I soaked in buttermilk overnight before I cooked it and it turned out great. It seemed to give it a much better flavor.

Normally I'll just cook deer steaks the same way I'd cook beef round steak. I mix some flour with water in a cup to the thickness of heavy cream and sit that in the fridge cause it has to be cold to work for thickening the gravy. Salt and pepper on the deer then brown it with onions in a pan that has a couple tablespoons of oil or lard in it, I like the lard better because it gives a better flavor, pour in some water, salt and pepper to taste, cover it, reduce the heat a bit and let it cook until tender. Then I add some gravy master or kitchen bouquet browning sauce. Then I take the meat out, and wisk the flour mixture in to thicken the gravy. After the gravy is done I put the meat back in the gravy. Then serve it over rice, or beside the rice, whichever way is prefered. Sorry that I don't have exact measurments, I couldn't tell you how much of what I use to save my life.
