what's you blowin??
on my lanyard i have a muddy paws woody call, an rnt acyrlic-early edition-single reed,an old lohman double reed, and an custom r&m "tramp" mallard call..

the rnt is not going to last long on my lanyard. as my buddy "stump" is buildng me a r&m "mistress" in cocabola..

this is my "tramp" in purple heart -a type of exotic wood-.

belive me scotty custom calls add ducks to the pile..

I've been duck hunting, but never shot one. I think my stepdad saw the gleam in my eyes when I became a teenager, and my shotgun just sort of disappeared. (We didn't get along very well, and I was beginning to look him eye to eye).

As a side note, one of the reasons I got very accurate with a spinning reel was our lack of a retriever dog. My stepdad dad took a piece of broomstick handle, embedded about a dozen large hooks in it, and I would cast out and retrieve the ducks he shot that way. We used to hunt the North Platte River in Wyoming. I only got a couple of shots at it before the duck would soon be gone. And then of course, it would be "my fault." It was particularly tough right before the river froze up hard. Retrieving past floating icebergs was tough haha.

I went for the first time last weekend, it was a lot of fun even though the only ducks that came in were before it was light enough to see them. I can't wait to go again. The guy I went with said last time he went to that spot they had their limit in 20 minutes, more were flying in to land as they were shooting the others!

scotty

check out my this site..they are worth the money no question plus ya get to choose the wood...

http://www.rmcustomcalls.com/index.html

no i can't get ya a deal-don't even ask-

i refuse to buy a custom call from a "normal" call maker..the reason you drop the cash on a custom call is to sound differant..after ducks get shot at they tend to avoid being fooled by the same mass produced call..

as we in the south are on the bottom or near it of the fly ways.. differant sounding calls are one of the keys to a sucessful hunting venture..

Scott, unless you have basically perfected the double reed, I would reccomend passing on the single reed call. Single reed calls are REALLY tough to learn on.

I made a custom duck call back in Jounior high that I got my butt whipped for. That year I had PE for last period and that day the teacher had to leave early so he left us in the wonderful hands of the teachers assistant. She was a fine young specimen.. but that's another tale.

Anyway, we wound up just chillin on the bleachers the last half of the class and were talking hunting. The guys got off on duck hunting, something I knew nothing about, and they started doing duck calls with their hands and mouths.

I told them I knew how to make the perfect duck call, and I took my cigerette pack out, quickly removed the plastic and and hid the smokes again. I told the guys I needed to find and old school pull tab from a soda or beer can, the kind you pulled completely off. Back then you could still find them laying on the ground around the bleachers of any football field.

They worked themselves hard trying to find one for a few minutes, and gave it to me. I spent a couple minutes folding and tucking the plastic around the tab, telling them it had to be done just right or it wouldn't work. They watched intensly as I showed them how to fold it and hold it just right against the fleashy part of your finger on the right hand as you folded your fingers over and placed your other hand over those making a cup with the bottom part of your hands so the sound will carry just right. Then hold it to the mouth so the plastic is just front of the lips...

I took a deep breath and began to slowly let the breath go as I Yelled.. "HERE DUCK DUCK!!! HERE DUCK DUCK!!!"

The rest was not a pretty sight, but I, as well as they, learned a valuble leason...

A fatboy can run pretty quick and be pretty agile when he needs too.

hehehehe...
