Default Male & Female Bass distinctions

Other than the obvious fat bellied female full of roe, how can you tell a male bass from a female one? I seem to vagely remember something about the fin structure, but I'm not sure... so how do you tell a 2 # female from a 2# male? Thanks, Sam

A good way to go by is the size of the head. An older fish 9 times out of 10 will have a larger head.

Apparently, older fish are predominantly of one sex.

I have seen pros on TV talk about the shape of the lower jaw. When closed, the Male lower jaw comes to a point more so than a female.

Walker, you hit the nail on the head. A male lower jaw comes more to a point, whereas the female's is more rounded. The bigger the fish the more easier it is to tell but even the small one have this distinction.

Hope this helps
