Crazy bass

I went to fish this morning. A sunny bright day and pretty hot.

On one spot after I caught couples LM, there was a crazy bass freaked me out! I casted a wacky rigged senko; the fish bited it, and then instead sadling off, this guy was just running pretty fast TOWARD TO ME while holding the senko!!!

The water is very clear so I could even see the fish hold my senko in his month and swam toward to me! I believe the bass was around 15''-17'', but I was not sure it was a LM or SM.

I reeled as fast as possibly, and tried to set the hook. The fish was swimming even faster toward to me! and when I set the hook, I thought I just simply couldn't put enough pressure on, and the fish just spat the bait out.

I casted again, and samething happened again!

Has anyone faced the same kind situation? Any idea about how to deal with it?

Yeah but usually after I hook them or when or when I start to hook them. Its really hard to reel in the slack and keep up with the fish though.

ya, happens to the best of us. what i do(if possible) is walk backwards fast while reeling in as fast as i can. usually i can get a hook set this way. ofcoarse this can only be done on the bank, if you are fishing from a boat, you can always use your T/M.

It happens. I've had the same thing happen to me with a C-rig. Using a high speed reel and I still couldn't catch up to him.

I've never had to happen top me, but I would think if you would slap the water with something the fish would spook and set the hook. Just a thought based on the theary the fish do spook easy.

That might be a smart and neat idea!

So next time I should take a rock on my left hand while holding my rod, then cast my lure. lol...

Any way, seriously I think it will works if I can do it properly!

That one of the reasons I prefer to use 7'0 rods, you can move alot of line in a hurry by raising the rod tip.It happened alot when I was fishing tube baits. Next time try positioning your boat in shallow next to shore and when the fish strike, they will still automatically run to deeper water which will be away from your boat. I hope this helps. P N J

Thanks all.

I should say it was not a normal "TOWARD THE BOAT" run! This guy was running about at least 15 feet as fast as I reeled (ASAP), while holding the bait in his or her mouth. I didn't even have a chance to hook the guy. I mean I could only feel a tiny weight on the line, but I can see the guy hold the senko across his mouth firmly, and he didn't even want to spit it off.

The water was pretty clear so I could see what he or she exactly did! It was so excited. And also I think it was pretty weird too.

Now I think about the fish with my 6th sense, it was a SM.
