Split Rings
For those who change to oval shaped split rings vs the round ones that come on most baits make sure that the rings are the smallest that you can apply to your baits. The larger rigs can catch on the origional line ties.

OK!
Ekshully, I converted all my cranks, lipless, topwaters, jerkbaits, etc, to either the oval OR pear-shaped rings beginning last year and am damned glad I did. When using the pear-shaped one, one needs to be certain that knot is on the narrow end, BTW. There can be some issues such as you described, but careful selection and caution should handle that, as you stated. FR |

First thing I do when I get a new crankbait is to change the line tie from a round to oval split ring. I get them here:
http://www.staminainc.com/plugs_hard...lit_rings.html Much cheaper than getting them from BPS or someplace like that.
