Just make sure you lay each part out in a place/fashion that mimics the way it came apart. That's what I do for just about anything I take apart. Learned the hard way to many times. haha

I put a white cloth down on the work space. A small spring or other part falls to a hard surface - it will disappear in to another dimension.

Forget about the cloth, small parts like C/E clips, springs nŽscrews got a mind of their own and they usually blast off from the reel at warp speed going boldly where no other reel part has gone before.
To dissasemble a reel there no better place to do that inside one of those blanket cover packs, unzip, place your reel, tools and hands inside it and proceed to work, if any of those lil fellers decides to take a hike youŽll find it inside the cover. |

This is a pretty useful video for maintaining a spinning reel. It demonstrates field stripping a Shimano Sustain 3000 in real (reel!) time so its particularly useful if you have a Shimano spinning reel although I suspect the procedure for other makes won't be that much different.
