All I can tell you is what works for me. I get the most hits on a horny toad in Green Pumpkin, Watermelon Candy, and White. I have caught fish on those and Black and Yellow swirl. The big bass have been on Watermelon Candy but most of the bass I have caught on them have been of the size of "what the hell were you gonna do when you caught this thing 10"-12". I tend to believe that the action is more important than color of them.

The only thing I wonder about frogs is if a white belly is better since that looks more like a real frog is the water.

Agree with Zook, I doubt color is a big deal. I use black.

I have been throwing these 3 colors and they seem to hit them all the same.

I favor the horny toad and watermelon red has been the most consistent color for me. Maybe try a few different colors and see what they want for that day.

Being that most fish the toad topwater and creating a wake on the surface, color probably doesn't mean a whole lot. If, however, you weight it and use it a foot under the surface as suggested in a recent article, then I would think a medium or darker color would be better. This is just a theory as the effect of the two turbo hooktails would also disturb the water and refract the light entering as well....if I am thinking correctly. I'd have to test out this theory to speak with authority about the difference in overal trailing effects.
At any rate, I suspect the darker or medium would show better underwater when being viewed from below. |

I like scum frogs the most. If you are fishing with these, get a bright color like white, orange, or yellow on the frogs belly. When you go to pop this over lilly pads, the bright color belly will make a bright FLASH that drives the bass crazy.

I don't think it matters much at all, when I first bought the toads I got the ones pictured above and started out with the green back with orange/yellow belly, then went to white....i figured all along that most frogs are white bellied, and some when they mate in mid summer are tad yellowish here, but after going through about 1000 horny toads this summer, I am pretty sure any color works.

The only problem I have had with the Zoom ones in Junebug/chartruse is that the legs seem to be fused on and not one piece so the legs get ripped off pretty easily in the thick stuff.
