I tried to go the economy route a long time ago and bought a Craftsman outboard instead of springing for the couple extra hundred for a Merc or Rude and what a mistake. Pay the extra and get a decent outboard that will last for decades.

What size boat? I would getter either more horses, or a known brand. I own an old evinrude 3.5, and like it, except its slow!
