Will, I have a dectector but don't use it much. I like to read some on the civil war. I live close to Pittsburgh and my girlfriend lives on the Cashtown Rd. near Gettysburg. She told me I can search her property. Will have to wait till the thaw. Never found too many relics, civil war or otherwise. One musket ball and an ax head is about it. I bet you find a ton of stuff where you live. I would love to find a confederate belt buckle (yeah sure). Care to share your best civil war find?

Having grown up over a prior battlefield. (New Market, VA) I was very much into it as a kid, but have not done any relic hunting in many years.

Bob you live in a great area a hell of lot better than mine. I'm sure with a little networking and just asking I would hope to it people find rebel stuff all the time. I have a few buddies up that way if you like I can get you hooked up with them and maybe give you a rundown of what and were to look!!! Later Will |

I've messed around at st. Augustine beach before, never found anything. I don't have a detector, but people find pirate and Spanish stuff sometimes.

My dad had a metal detector years ago, but all we ever did was look for change on the school playground. I grew up in Vicksburg, so you would think it would've accurred to one of us to look for musket balls, cannonballs, or whatever down by the riverfront or in the trenches, but we never did...

Don't have to do much digging here in Fredericksburg, VA with all the civil war shops and museums but I'm sure there's plenty for anyone who's interested. Also got a GGG-Grandfather who served and we have a couple artifacts that belonged to him, his sword and dental kit.

had a neighbor who wa real big into re-enacting. his ancestors fought on both sides too. this is down in mobile now. there is STILL a old submarine sown there right next to dauphin island (betweent the island and the mainland) and has recently been uncovered by hurricane I van again. they were talking about raising it up at one point. dunno what is happening to date. i love history, all american history. IF i had listened to my parents, i probably would have been a history teacher and football coach. but i was young, dumb and you know the rest. i love the artifacts pics. what kind of muscket ball is the one that looks like there are 3 little ones under it? never seen one like that.

Not civil war, but a neighbor of our has quite a big collection of arrow heads all from around this area. They're really cool. I've looked before, but never found anything.

Back in the mid 70's Dad was stationed at an Army Base on the Island of Okinawa and I use to be able go out in the fields and find countless WWII munitions mostly small bullets, although accasionally you would hear of someone finding one of the larger artillery rounds that hadn't been detonated, we were taught in school to leave those alone. It must have been one heck of a battle!
