Default powertrimming?????

Im new to this powertrimming thing. The last boat i owned i had to lift it manually out the water. But what i wanted to know was other than lifting the motor out the water. What other part does the powertrim play while riding.

it gives you lift out of the hole-a faster hole shot- trimming up places the boat firmly on pad. it reduces wetted surface alowing the boat to go faster.

ok the bad thing trimming to high up will pick the moter out of the water -which causes the moter to blow up- you have to listen to the moter as it comes on pad. -nose comes down- trimming up while the nose comes down. listen for the moter to change sound -it will get louder-on my yamaha there is a 3/4 lock in other words you can trim the moter up till it hits 3/4 thottle speed. it will not trim up at full thottle.

now the while the boat is running you can not crank it hard over and exspect it to turn -it will hop first-you will hear the prop loose bite.-makes a funny noise- smooth wide turns are a must.. to make the boat turn tight and hard you must trim down. which places more of the moter skeg farther under the boat you loose speed and lift..

now my buddy has a 60 horse johnson non power trim moter. on a 256 stratos the same excat hull as my boat which i have a 50 horse power trim on.. his boat will top out about 30-32 tourny loaded. mine hits 38-39 tourny loaded..

every boat trims and and runs differantly..

it makes that much differance..

Ok thanks Zooker.I have a 50 yammie on my skeeter f80 boat and she move pretty good until i see a bass boat with the 250hp motors fly past me lol.I Know the sound you are talking about. I heard it today and i trimmed back down.So if i trim some as i go that will stop the hopping that it does when i take off? Sometimes she hops for a long while and i have to back out of it to get it to stop.

it is a cool feeling when you come out of the hole and are running wide open and then start trimming out. it feels like the whole boat is raising out of the water.

There is always lack of space to use this one - but this time it was perfect!

Yes, the hopping is from the trim....keep it down on takeoff and adjust as you move through the water then remember to lower as you slow or get close to where you want to fish...also remember not to turn to abruptly while moving across the water with your trim up(been there..not fun) this will throw your boat all over the place..if you have to turn sharply you want the lower unit down in the water to force the front of the boat down...the best way to learn is to get as much seat time in as possible and really play with it...I don't even look at the trim gauge anymore just listen to your engine and you will figure it out
