Default Braided line problem

Hello everyone,

I came upon this forum a few weeks ago and have been picking up some great tips so I figured I would join.

I did a search but didn't find anything(forgive me if I missed it) But I have noticed a problem with my Berkley Fireline on one of my reels. What's happening is it's slipping on the reel when reeling in. I have only noticed this on one of the two I have it on, and they were spooled at the same time. By the way there spinners. I have heard of some using cheaper mono line as a backing when using braided, is that to prevent this from happening?

I love this line as far as casting and strength and would like to keep using it. If anyone has any feedback to help that would be great

Thanks

Welcome to the boards bud. Lots of GREAT GUYS here. On the slipping wind on some cheap mono tightly and use a suitable knot to join the too. One thing I warn you SET the drag accordingly. I myyself ama fan of braid and have sent a few spinning reels to an early graveyard because of my gentle hookset( I rock a 20ft boat upon hookset) and yu will be good to go.

Hey man welcome to the nut house i agree with you about the fireline and the mono backing on a spinning reel won't hurt at all or baitcasting for that matter , i would tie a uni to uni knot to join the lines .

How do you like the Fireline, Jim? I was looking at some at our local tackle shop and it didn't look round at all. Loooked like floss to me.

Yes, the mono backing should solve your case. Welcome!

so far i like it , it's a little stiff out the the box but it casts great and is strong as heck, I've fished the line twice since spooling it and it has broken in a bit but overall no problems with it yet . I had also heard that it frayed pretty badly but it does not seem to at all yet and it is much easier to cut than my other braid .

LedZepp, mono backing should solve the slipping problems with the fireline. I've never used Fireline, and only used braid on a spinning once, but I never had problems with the braid.

Jim, glad to hear that. I'm thinking about using Fireline as my main line for dropshotting and other finesse techniques. How's the sensitivity of it compared to a braid like Power Pro or Suffix?

I have been using the Fireline on my spinning reels and love it. I also had the same issue with spinning on the spool. It does not grip and just spins. I found that if I tape the first loop of line on it has a secure anchor point and will not spin.
