Looking for a bracket for a trolling motor
Hey : I am thinking about putting a hand controlled minkota on the front of a small (12 foot) aluminum boat. I want to know if there is an inexpensive bracket that I will be able to raise and lower the motor, much like a foot controled motor, to use with a hand controled one.

Bracket for Minn Kota hand control
Muddy: The hand control motor you are going to use, does it still have the transom bracket on the shaft? You will need to remove it in order for you to adapt to a front mount (retractable). Good used brackets are hard to find unless the motor/shaft parts have been damaged beyond repair. I would recommend you try a marine dealer in your area. If it is a Minn Kota you will have to use a Minn Kota bracket. Motor Guide uses a smaller diameter shaft than Minn Kota. You could possibly "shim" the bracket in order for it to work if using another make bracket. If you look on-line for trolling motor parts you might find it there also.

I will post picture of the boat when I get home from work later. I think what I amy do, since there is a customised place built to mount a foot contorled motor, I can put a plate at the end of it, just reverse the head on the hand controled motr and it will be easy enough to lower and raise that way. When I post the pic I would apreciate more input then
Thanks Dominick |

The old mount was a Motor Guide Gator. If you choose Min Kota you will need to drill new holes.
I suggest you look for a good used Motor Guide with bracket. Then see if this will work. http://www.wmjmarine.com/78-5502.html That way it will allow you to remove it for safe keeping. Capt Mike

Thanks. I just got a great deal on another hand controlled motor. I am going to keep that wooden mount John built, and put a piece of plating on the end of it. Reverse the head ( 180 degrees) and I will be good to go, The motor will go up and down easily and I am sure it will do the job. My Friend Dan has this set up on his tinny and it works fine.
