Zappu Inch-Wacky
Last weekend there was a fishing show that we exhibited at and one of the reps for Optima Baits stopped by our booth with a Zappu Wacky Head. It is very similar to the Jackall flick shake head. Anyway he took one of our stick worms and one of our shaky worms to the 110,000 gallon "lake" that they had set up for pros to do seminars on while in boats. He filmed the stick worm, but the shaky worm really went nuts too.
I'm not trying to advertise for our worms, just saying that this technique looks great! I went and bought four bags of the wacky heads myself. I can't wait to try this as I bet it will drive the fish nuts in a little deeper water than the normal wacky rig is used. We use a very soft plastic formula and I bet that other super soft plastic baits might have similar action. Check it out: http://s126.photobucket.com/albums/p...PU-Nemesis.flv I know I am dying to give it a try, it falls a lot slower than I would have expected. Heck, I might even go try it through the ice for some pike. |

CMorg...I have met Bender 1 time....not like I'm a great bud or partner or anything. He gave Kennsandy and myself a bag of senkos they had made when we met him out on Kent Lake to try out. We were VERY impressed, everybit as good as the Yamamotos or Gander mt. The bag he gave us was a color he had had success with at that lake. I'm not real sure of their color selection or other varieties (think I did see him with Gobi's though). Tough business, would always lean towards one of the forum guys over one of the Mega giants if the product was comparable. Good luck Bender !!!!

That really has my mind turning this morning. And it sure doesn't help with my cabin fever either. I bet that would be a deadly technique flipping into open pockets of weedbeds.

Bender, thanks for the info on weighted wacky rigging. I just added to my mega BPS order the Zappu Wacky jigheaqds in 3/16 & 1/8 oz. What a deadly presentation this is going to be. Now I can wacky rig deep as well as shallow. Will be using the same dedicated setup: Shimano Claarus 6'6" M 6-12 F action coupled with a Shimano 2500 Stratic spooled with 10 lb Power Pro and a 6 ft 8 lb mono leader.
I'm really confident that the bigger LMs in the NYC reservoir system that live deep most of the year have never seen anything like this. It's been mostly big, heavy jigs or spoons.

Ok, I am definately buying the heads but I was messing around in the bath tub today for something to do and I have found that if you pinch a splitshot on a #2 mosquito hook just where the bend starts and you will get amazing action on the bait when rigging it center of the baits length.Somewhere I had bigger clam shot which I wanted to try but for some reason they are amongst the missing. One thing to note is this works so much better on 6 lb test than 10 lb test did.It allows the weight to pendulum on the fall giving the worm the quivers and shakes. P N J

Bama,I ain't buying that fluorocarbon in 6 lb test. It would break. It was using cheap 6lb Hi Seas Grand slam line. I think it might be a saltwater line but its pretty good line and dirt cheap, I think I got 2000 yards for around $6.00 ? P N J

I can't recall which weight I used, I believe it was either 1/8 or 3/16 regular jig. Like jigs with guard it would still get snagged so it would make no difference I don't think. After lost a couple then didn't lose much when I don't let it fall to the bottom.

Well I just ordered the heads in 1/16 & 1/8 oz. weight.I also ordered the Gamakatsu wacky head in 1/8 oz.I put the Jackall flick shake worms in as well and I decided to go back to McCoy mean green in 6 lb test for the line.I can't bring myself to fish fluorocarbon that low of test.I should have gone to 4 lb test but we will see whats what with the 6 first.Ivan

I hear ya. Been there until last year I gave it a stab and like it a lot. It how I play the fish and keep the drag loosen a bit and don't set the hook too hard. Depends on a brand then your good to go.
Sorry for the thread hijacking. Back to topic.

I found this article, thought it might be of interest to someone ?
6.8" Flick Shake Wacky Worm. On the soft bait side, Jackall's supersizing too, with a new, larger Flick Shake wacky worm. The Flick Shake's fairly unique in that it has a molded-in body curve, which enhance the natural sway and swagger of the Flick Shake when rigged on a wacky jig head, weightless wacky, or when rigged wacky dropshot style. Of course it goes swell on a standard shakey jig head too. New 6.8" Flick Shake.Double and triple up with Flick Shakes. I got a great tip at ICAST from Jackall pro Hata Takuma. At times, he'll wacky rig two or even three Flick Shake worms on a single wacky jig. With two, Hata often prefers both the same color, in the 5.8" Flick Shake size. He'll start out to make the three worm wacky jig rig the same way, and then adds the third wacky worm in the smaller 4.8" Flick Shake size, making it a different color than the other two.
