Fishing First + Aid Kit
I am putting together a first aid kit for my boat , some smaller items that will fit into a Altoids container. I got the idea from a website I read alot , and just wanted to get some ideals about what may fit , and be useful and needed for fisherman.

I keep band aids, adhesive tape, gauze pads, matches, needle (splinters), tweezers and Neosporin ointment in the glove box of my boat. If I need anything other than that, I'm likely heading back to the dock.

A styptic pen is a good item to have.
Also, a compression bandage. Basically, the only non-instant death injury that will kill you before you can get back to the dock is blood loss. These two items will help.

Id add 2 Benadryl in the event you or someone gets stung by a bee and has an allergic reaction
I had some friend out and this happened and rushed back to give them 2 pills. If I had on the boat life would have been easier |

I bought a first aid kit from Costco. I subbed some the equipment out and added sharper sissors and a few other things. It's a little bigger than those spinnerbait bags. Fits nicely in my boat. I have a friend thats needs medical attention almost every time out, so it works.

I'd also include Sting-Eze, Advil (or aspirin/tylenol/ibuprofen), and a few antacid tablets.

I have an outdoors kit i take everywhere. it stays in my jjeep unless i am out of the jeep and then it is on my person or in the boat. It is a first aid/survival kit.
Guaze Tape Bandaids QuikClot Space Blanket Matches Meds (tylenol, excedrin migraine, benadryl) Sting Ease Iva-Rest Whistle/Signal Mirror This pretty much covers me around here where i am more than likely within cell phone range to call for serious help, and within a 30 minute walk of a house almost all the time. If i were boating up north where you are alittle farther from civilization, i would look into a lightweight hiking tarp for shelter, and a wool blanket. And a way to purify water. A good starting point is the First Aid kit that comes in the red soft side case at walmart. And then adjust it for your needs. |

For me, my main fishing partner is my daughter, so mine includes a lot of barbie bandaids.
Being that my lakes are small, I don't have too many main items. I keep gauze, tape, aleve, a small tube of sunscreen, an extra lighter, and an unopened pack of cigerettes in mine.

I had a huge amount of money left in my flexible spending account this past year, so I had to blow it on a ton of stuff, or just lose it.
So I bought a ridiculous first aid kit for the boat. That and about $600 worth of meds for my parents.

You guys should see the first aid/survival kit they make us carry in out aircraft. Forget that it is a medical aircraft and the med crew has enouhg stuff to do open heart surgery in teh field, we still have to carry a whole crap load of stuff.

Walker's list was a very good start. Working with injuries on a daily basis I'd add one or two things. I'd swap out sponges for gauze since they soak up more blood. Latex or Vinyl gloves are needed too. Some sort of sling is a good idea. After that most other injuries need stuff that is beyond first aid type care.

He has a good point, just be sure they are surgical sponges. A scotch bright sponge is a good way to get an infection.

Yeah, she uses it to keep Bama at bay when he tries to take her rod from her because she's catching more fish than him.
