Situation
You have a decent sized pond you're fishing in that's 90% covered in muck/scum. Water is stained/dirty. How would you go about fishing it on a cloudy and a sunny day?

I'd use a scum frog or zoom trick worm rigged weedless.

Tried that with no success. It seems like I can fish for hours and maybe get 1 or 2 hits. Tried twitching the Trick Worm over the moss then letting it drop in the holes with 0 success. Tried the Scum Frog for 2 days straight with 2 hits. Today was cloudy and it rained hard yesterday, got 2 hits on the Horny Toad. I know there is fish in this place I just don't know how to get em to bite. Maybe I'll post a picture or two so you guys can get an understanding.

That definitely limits what you can use. You are on the right track. The only thing I would add would be to use a weedless weightless soft stickbait like a tiki stick that you let sink when you get into open water.

Try a horny toad weighted and let it fall to the bottom.

Reb, also tried a Yum Dinger and caught a dink. It's just frustrating to know there in there but you can't catch em. Maybe it's just me and the way I'm using the lures, and I don't know what else to throw

I Bass Fish,
One of my favorite ponds around my area is just like the pond you described, just covered in muck everywhere. What I usually do is throw a spinnerbait on the edge of the muck or in area where there is no muck at all. If you are unable to do this(which in the pond I fish sometimes, 100% of it can be covered), I would keep tryin the frogs or weedless worms. But, if your area is anything like the one I am used to fishing, the stuff is so thick a lure won't even go through it without getting muck and scum all over it, so you know what I do....don't fish it. Thats hard to do sometimes, but if nothing else I find a more clear pond or lake to fish. Will |
