Midweek outing
The Major called me last minute and wanted to know if I wanted to get out and fish yesterdays club tournament......Duh?
Rain was in the forecast (since it's rained on 20 days so far this month it was a given) so we figured it would be a great topwater day. And of course the rain did fall throughout the day and the topwater bite was nowhere to be found ......until the tide turned . As the water levels dropped the bass started chasing the RC Wake and Buzzbaits. We both had many blow ups and I had a couple shake off coming to the boat. It was a fun "golden hour" as Capt. Mike calls it and then the topwater bite disappeared. I switched to a chatterbait and culled a couple fish and finished 3rd with 11.4lbs. I was happy since I had missed a some good fish during the day. Here's a pic of some of the skinny water we worked back to. Capt. Mike's push pole was needed to go further back. And another pic of one bass that didn't make the ride back to the scales. Caught it right off the drop next to the little cut in the grass just above it's eye. Classic tidal river spot. |

Although they did shut down one area of the river this summer to swimming due to high bacteria counts. It was a good day on the water. |

Me too but no fish. Tide hadn't started moving yet and the bass were acting like two year olds being fed strained peas.....
Mike I need to learn you how to throw those chatterbaits. And you need a RC Wake!!! So much fun. |

The competitive side of me wasn't happy at all considering I missed one quality fish on a laydown on a t-rigged craw, two coming to the boat on the Wake, and had two monster blow ups on the Wake (could have been a snakehead). All were good fish and would have increased my weight and probably won the tournament for me.
On the other side I was happy to get out and fish. Everyone should get the opportunity to fish golden hour on the Potomac river. Plus I got a chance to fish with a friend and explore a creek all the way to the back which I had never done before. |

That golden hour thing and fishing way bay in creeks sounds like a good idea. (insert tongue in cheek smiley thingy here)
Sarcasism is so lost when typing. Capt Mike
