Mantis shrimp for convict bass
I fish an area that has 17.5 miles of structure. 1342 pillings and 4 man made islands make this a great area for all sorts of bass..salty bass or convict bass as refer I to them. Mantis shrimp are mean little mothers that can cut you quick. They look like this.
They hang real close to the pillings. The convict bass eat them up. But with the way they float and swim it is hard to find the right lure for the job ...till two years ago. Taking a page from LGMouth.... Specialized Baits created "The Bug" . It needs just one thing to make it float move just right.. YES pork rind. It has always been said, that anything is better with pork (bacon). Add a Uncle Josh pork rind and it will obliterate those convict bass. Capt Mike

I believe a convict bass is another name for a striper. They're called that because of the white with black stripes like a prison jumpsuit, hence convict bass.

Those things are devils. I have seen them slice a friend's finger pretty good while trying to get them out of a reef aquarium. Almost impossible to catch without traps.

Update on CBBT trip. I did not have any pork strips so I lost about 10 jig heads in the rocks. Tackle shops where out of them too.
Next trip down to Cheasapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel I will be have them in hand before I go. Other boat had them and limited out on convict bass two days in a row. Darn. Capt Mike
