Jigs - Big Bass?

Lately, I've really got a good jig bite going, especially in the 15-25' range. These bass have really been on the 1/4 Thunderstruck Jig like fleas on a kittie, but of all the bass I've been catchin', nothing would top two pounds. I've always thought of the jig as a 'big bass' lure, but lately, the 'big bass' seem to be shy. With water temps straddling the low to mid 60's, shouldn't the bigger bass be down deep in preparation for the spawn? Should I upsize my jigs for bigger bass? Bigger profile?

I would think at those temps the bass would have moved shallow 5-10° ago.

Jigs are often mentioned as "big bass" lures, but I have caught what I consider to be big bass on a wide variety of lures. I think if you have a lure near a big bass, that lure can and will be a big bass lure.

Buzzie, I don't know what lake your talking about, but last weekend at Hudson we were caught all our fish hitting the banks with that "secret" lure of yours. But yeah, try using a bigger jig, it may help. The problem with the 1/4oz is that it is smaller enough for a small bass to eat. try something 1/2oz or bigger.

P.S. add a bigger trailer. Is you're using say a YUM chunk, try a Craw Papi or a Chigger Craw.

This past weekend over here in NW Indiana, I spotted many smaller male bass very close to the banks. However, I only saw one larger female bass. I think in our part of the country, the larger females are just now starting to move from their prespawn stagging areas spawn. I would suggest using a larger jig on breaks that are located near spawning areas.

Bass like pebbles/gravel for spawning, right?

Anyway, I think the area where I caught this pig should be good. It's a dock that drops down into about 15' and is loaded with sand shallow, and gravel all the way down. Here is that 'pig'...
