Default Braid, Mono and Fluoro. Pros and cons.

What are the pros and cons of each??

When and where do you prefer one over the other?

What brands do you prefer?

Does it really make a difference or are these different types of lines just something the manufacturers keep producing to keep us buying.

Do you use braid in clear water and if not, how stained does the water need to be before you use strainght braid with no leader??

I am no expert by any means but i mostly use braided line in areas with heavy cover were you would run a bigger chance snagging on something , the fluoro i have no knowledge of and for mono i have always used trilene in a 12lb test and never really had any problems with it . For braided i recently switched to power pro because i was unhappy with spiderwire stealth .

These are just some of the basics that I can think of.

Braid:
Pros- small diameter, near zero stretch, very sensitive, great in heavy cover
Cons- fish can see it (I am a believer in the line visibility issue), only holds certain knots

Mono:
Pros- stretches, harder for fish to see, floats, holds knots
Cons- stretches, not sensitive

Fluoro:
Pros- Near invisible to fish, low stretch, sinks, sensitive (less than braid, more than mono), anbraision resistant
Cons- lots of memory, sinks

For the things like Sinks and stretches that are on both, it depends on what your using the line for. Fluoro sinks so that's a pro for crankbaits and such, a con for topwaters.

hope that helps a bit,

BB

Bigbassin, I agree with your list of pros and cons. The only thing that I would add is that braid has almost zero memory.
