fishing small ponds

i have been fishing this small pond by my house for the past couple of months and can't seem to catch anything bigger than a 2 pounder. i know for a fact they have bigger fish because i have seen 12 pounders pulled out. the pond is not very deep maybe 8 to 10 feet. any suggestions on what type of bait i should switch to. currently using topwaters.

I do this same thing at my aunt and uncles house. The only way I've been able to do it is throw baits that are too big for the 2 pounders to "eat." I kept catching all the smaller fish till I put on some bigger baits. I decided to go all out so I threw on my 8 inch Optimum swim bait. I pulled in a 7 pounder which I was told is the biggest fish in there (they think). It took like 15 casts till I finally found him and he took it though...Good luck.

Deep crankbaits, jnps, c rigs t rigs, wacky rigged senkos. Be happy your catching 2 pounders though, some people don't even have that to their credit.

using a swim bait which is the most effecient retrieval method? fast, slow, stop and go???

I tried them all, but I eventually caught it on the stop and go retrieve. I think I was giving it around 2 to 4 second pauses.

It would help if you told more about the pond(clarity, cover, water temp.) and so on.

Ehh I just figured since hes from Cali that it would be hot, and for some reason or other it seems backyard ponds usually have very little cover and are not very clear. Just a guess though

little cover(long grass or bambo no trees or stumps), and water not very clear, estimated temp currently about 70-75. the pond is about 155 yards long and about 25 yards wide. no float tubes allowed.

In a pond like that, I would throw a larger than normal texas rigged worm. If that fails, wacky rig a BIG senko, and you should do all right.

I wouldn't put any weight on. I'd try a 10" texas-rigged worm or a plastic that has a fairly big profile(creature baits).

I would use a swimming jig or anything with a bigger profile(spinnerbaits,soft plastics,etc. If all you have is grass use that as an advantage. Look for little differences in cover or water clarity. Good Luck

C-rigged trick worm in red shad, they are made by zoom. I use about 3 feet of 20lb mono as a leader, and a 3/0 offset ewg worm hook.

Watermelon with red flake. I'm going to try out red shad though and bubblegum as well. They are my go-to bait at the moment.
