Default what should I look for when buying a used outboard

I am looking to repower a 1989 20 ft gambler I would like to gett a used 200 hp what my best options and what should I look for in a used motor ? thanks for anny advice you may give

Well from my experiance that im going through at the present moment.I would check the compression on the motor for sure.But the best advice i can give is take it to a qualified outboard mechanic and have them over look it

Almars in Delaware no tax and a one year warrenty.. Great prices installed..

Your in Jersey so Del is just a short drive away. Do not mess around with somebodys old motor get a good one and make that Gambler fly like it should. I have owned two Gamblers and I loved them.

DITTO on the compression check for sure plus actually seeing it run be it on a stand or preferably on a boat. A leakdown test is also very valuable. Ole Cap'n Mike done gave you some good sound advise and knowing him he wouldnt steer you wrong.

I was told even a dog can idle good, make sure u get it tested under POWER under load.
