Default Fish Scent....

I have been told that certian fish have a great sense of smell, that they can smell human scent on your lure or cut bait. Is this true, and if so what can be used to prevent the fish from smelling us and for them to TAKE THAT BAIT!

I use scent on just about everything I throw. I use CB's Hawg Sauce and have been extremely happy with its results.

Check it out.

Default Old smelly sock juice

Had a charter with father and son in the heat. Had rain storm come by and soak us good. Cleared up and the son pulls off his high tops and socks. Rings them out on top of a tube lure. Next cast BAM big fish. Repeated sequence twenty times for twenty fish till tide turned out.

Or you can just throw PowerBait. The smell of their formula is stronger than our smell.

I don't think the brand of scent matters at all, as long as you cover human scent up with something, I look for what's on sale

I am a huge fan of CBs Hawgsauce. Easy to put on and boy does it catch fish. I use it for all species of fish and have had excellent success.

i've been using WD-40 for years..i e-mailed fish&game to find out if it hurt the environment and if it was legal to use on baits.this was in may of this year.they never replied to my e-mail.i can only assume if it was hazardous they would have gotten right back to me and told me to stop using it.

here is a link to the msds sheet for wd-40.as you can see it has petroleum base oil in it.use of wd-40 as a scent is pollution.

I remember when the WD40 craze was really popular with anglers in the 80s, and most have continued to use it..and also, almost all the tv anglers used it and commnented on the use until the fancy products like reel magic started paying them to say "use this instead" rofl

A spray of WD on my lure is a far cry in comparison to what I see DOW, Phillips, BP and BASF doing in my area. There is way worse stuff than that floating out in the bay. Heard of Gumbo?-brother that aint just mud down here. Come on man My grandpa used the stuff on his hands for aurthritis(sp). I would like to see all the ingredients in the other sprays. I dont buy that as pollution for one second and Im sorry if that offends you, but the method works great-thats my two cents and my two keeper reds from this weekend for you guys.
As for the MSDS:
RIGHT HAND SIDE 4TH ROW DOWN----ORGANIC MIXTURE!!!!

it also says insoluable in water.by your reasoning it's o.k. to pollute just because somebody else is.why add to the mess?

IMO,that little bit that's on your bait when you toss it in will do absolutely nothing to the water.peeing in the water probably adds more pollution.
never had the swimming area at the local reservoir closed due to WD-40 pollution.but it has been closed on numerous occasions due to people sh***ing in the water.or is s*** bacteria safer than WD-40?
not wanting to get into a heated discussion here.just a friendly difference of opinion . you say po-tay-to,i say po-ta-to. .i will keep using my WD-40(and catching fish)until it is banned.
