Fishing Tikis
I just got back from a lake where I was fishing tiki sticks along the shore...
Id cast it in near shore it would first sink the the bottom and id have a little bit of slack that id watch Just about every other cast the slack would bump once or twice like I was getting a hit... I tried waiting but they never took it. Then after that failed I tried setting the hook.. But nothing worked.... Im pretty sure it was just some little crappie or something messing with me but they wouldnt even take it when i used half the worm... just the same "bump, bump" id get every other time Any Comments/Suggestions Thanx Chris |

Its difficult to say since you can't confirm they were little fish or not.I would have changed hooks, a heavier shank to make it sink faster, or change color or brand of senko to see if it makes a difference.I have found that the straighter the senko is threaded on the hook makes a difference in the way the tail flutters on the drop. The time to make sure the hook is in the center and not offset to one side or another will produce a better shimmy as it falls through the water colum. I hope this helps. P N J

These types of hits are usually undersized fish such as bluegills. I've brought many a "worm type" bait to the boat and watched little gills or bass peck away at it. They could never have gotten this bait or one half that size in their mouths. Normally a decent size bass will inhale the bait without hesitation but not always. Your experience can be compared to fishing worms with a bobber. The bobber bounces around and pulls around the surface but never goes under. Every time you pull "nothing". Good luck and remember those yanks on that rod don't cost a thing.LOL

They are different! Try it, you will feel the different: most time bass hooks itself. All you need to do is "Reel set hook" : reel as fast as you can, when you feel the weight on you line just simply short jerk up your rod tip. Enjoy it. |

Sometimes when I'm getting bit like that, I'll wait about 30 or 40 seconds and start shaking the rod tip, Then let sit for another ten seconds, and bump...set the hook. Sometimes turns out to be green sunfish. Sometimes turns out to be a 3 or 4 lb. bass. If that doesn't work...I'll got to a smaller soft plastic bait of the same type.
