Default custom poured jigs

I love shakey head jigs, and my favorite is the football head with a coil bait holder. The draw back to all I have tried is that the coil is fixed in line with the hook and it's hard to screw the baits on. I solved that by customizing a mold to have a 2nd eye that i hook a center pin coil to. The coil swings free so you can screw the bait on from the side and then rig it on the hook point after that. Here are some pics of what I did.

That's a great idea and those look awesome! Those Squirrel Tail worms are about my favorite on a shaky head too.

Sorry guys, but with the reel biz I'm to busy to get into something else. These were just for myself.

The hook is the standard mustad 32798 BLN that fits the do it football shakey head mold. What I did was used a small end mill bit in a drill press to cut a very shalow circle indentation in both sides of the mold right where the spring coil wire went into the hole for the jig head. I cut a wide enough opening from one hole to the other for the shank of a figure 8 clip to fit. I then used 2 pliers to put a 90 degree twist in the clips so that the open side of the clip could slid on the hook shank and the eye end would lay flat in the area I cut in the mold. It worked really well and is easy to do.

Those look awesome Kevin! I'm gonna have to give this a try some time in the future if I pick up a shaky head mold.

Thats a really great idea. You should patent the things! It's such an obvious improvment, its funny no one has thought of it before.

Good looking jigs Kevin. To those of you that would like to purchase a similar type jig head, since Kevin said he has no time to make them.

Well, I sure as heck didn't know mesu already had one like that. I might not have spent all that time modifiing a mold if I had seen those before. Not to worry though, these were for me and not for sale. Also anyone that wants to mold there own like this could do it without infringing on any patents that mesu might have, although I'm not sure you can patent a slight modification to an existing product?

As for a figure 8 clip, I'm not sure what they are really called, but it's a wire clip that you can get from any tackle building site such as Janns netcraft or barlows. It looks like an 8 made from wire but it's about an 1/8 inch long between the 2 eyes. One eye is a closed loop and the other is the 2 ends of wire touching. Thats the end that goes over the hook shank and is in the lead head.

I didn't mean anything by that other then.....maybe you were the first to do the mod and I had smoke blown up my arse that they invented it. Either way I think its a great mod for an already great technique.

I checked into it today. Mesu has been making these for awhile, but so has a very small time local guy that just pours for himself and friends. I also found a name brand at Gander that has them in a ball head with a free swinging coil, just not a center pin coil. Basically, I doubt that there are any new ideas out there, just guys tweaking existing stuff to make them a bit better. After looking at Mesu's price, I'm still glad I figured out how to make my own.
