Metal garages?
Any of you guys have any dealings with one of these metal garages? The garage/carport we had before the tornado took it was framed in wood on 4"X4" wood posts.....our contractor recommends we concider a metal garage for the money, saying we could get alot more garage for the money and they can install it in about a day....So our landlord has been askin me what I think?
I just started looking at them and I just don't know....they're not bad, but seem kinda cheap, so I wanted to see if ya'll had any dealings with one of these and are they worth a crap or should we hold out and make the contractor build us one outta wood? Heres a couple of pics showing the style i'm lookin at....whatcha'll think? |

They look good but if ins. is picking up the tab, I believe I would go with wooden kind.

I helped my father-in-law put one together a couple of years ago. It is a nice garage, but it did take us longer to assemble than a wooden one. It did end up being much cheaper than a wooden one.

Yeah but you can go much bigger with metal if ins is paying for it . Plus metals normally have a much longer warranty. So if something happens in 5 or 10 years your not sol. I used to build wooden and they are nice of course can't deny that I just think that metal is by far a better option since you can get over a 1/3 to 1/2 the size more going with metal. If you have room for it that might be a nice option to consider.

Insurance is payin for most of this...Landlords are coverin the rest.....were going back with a full two car garage this time where we had half garage and half carport before. We are workin with the existing 20'X24' slab and from what i'm seein online pricing is running five grand or better for that size garage using the heavier 12gauge steel....has two 10' wide roll up doors....two side windows, and a standard sized door in the rear.....can't remember what the warrenty was....i've just been window shoppin fer now and haven't really paid attention to that, but I will from now on.
