Need mounting suggestions

I am planning to buy a Hummingbird 535 depthfinder. My trouble is that I cannot decide where to mount the bodyon my boat. The transducer will be mounted in the transom. The boat is 12 foot long, and has three seats. I use both oars and a 55 pound thrust Motorguide mounted to the transom. I was thinking the body of the depthfinder would be ideal on the side of the middle seat so I could easily see the screen while motoring about. However, that location would make it hard to deal with the oars when rowing. The front seat would be great, except that I couldn't see the screen from the back seat very well. I could mount it on the side of the rear seat where I sit while using the motor, but I am thinking that might get crowded and also may get in the way of the oars when they are stored in the boat. I was thinking perhaps I should mount it on the rear corner of the transom where there is currently a boat cleat. But with that location, I would not be able to watch where I am steering the boat while viewing the screen. Any ideas where YOU would mount the depthfinder?

get a ram mount. screw it into the side of the seat base or bolt it thru the side of the boat. then you can adjust it from there..

Keith-looking at the third thumbnail the stern has a couple of triangular braces. I'd probably mount it there. It will be right next to you when using the TM, and easily seen if you are rowing. Plus, that line of Humminbirds-I have 2 565's-is removable. You can remove the unit for transport/storage so you don't have to worry about it getting damaged.

Ok, both good ideas. Never heard of a Ram mount. What are those and where can I find one?

Keith-a Ram mount is a particular brand of mount for a variety of products.

they are a compact ball swivel mount. mount the ball where ever and you can swivel the depthfinder in unlimited positions. then when you get it perfect a turn of a knob locks it in place..

Or another alternative would be to get 2 Ram base mounts 1 in front and one in back and you can easily move the unit front or back. Just have to leave slack in cables that can be handled with some cable ties. You can get the cable ties similar to what are used for routing computer cables so you can open and close them as needed.

You could also use a Johnny Ray mount. Not as flexible, but work fine if just wanting to move the unit to different spot or swivel it around: http://www.johnnyraysports.com/home.html.

i use a johnny ray..very good mount just takes up a large amount of space..

First thing after you mount the depth finder I would do is sub floor the boat with a piece of green plywood and cover with rug or that mat they use under workout equipment. Nice and quiet like...

My dad put some foot braces in his row boat so he could row all day.

Here is a hint that will save some time...and headaches. Build it with carboard first and use the template on the wood.
Use a small drill to mount wood floor and get a rivet gun to attach floor to sub beams. Never ever drill the hull (floor). OK? Dry wall screws will rust out after one year so use rivets.

Long rivets will do the trick. Next get a can of 3M surface mount from the craft store and use that to put your pads in place. It can be removed if needed down the road.
