Default trolling motor

It looks like if I save up just a few more bucks I'll have enough $$$ for a trollin motor, battery and a muont. I'd like to know, for a 16ft canoe, 2 people about 140 each, how powerful a trolling motor should I get?

Hula, you can get by with a fairly small motor. My boat came with a 43 lb motor to push 17 feet of boat plus a 115 outboard, and that weighs a whole lot more than your canoe will.

Sorry for bringing up an old post guys but I was given a canoe yesterday (needs some work, but should be used or at least tested this saturday) And was wondering if a 30 lb. would do. My friend that got me started with this has a 52 lb. but i dunno if i need that much. and it beats paddlin'.

30lb will work fine for a canoe. I have a 36lb on my 16' Fishermarine and it gets me everywhere I need other than the real thick vegetation. Just not powerful enough for cutting the vines/weeds

I use a 36 for the jon boat I always use. You will be fine with whatever size you get. A canoe will cut through water nicely and wont weight as much as some other boats. Happy fishing!

What size motor would work for a 12' jon boat. On a very windy very very big man made res. I know a 30 or 36 would push it but what about getting to the ramp in a hurry against a head wind in front of a storm. I'm going to get the biggest I can afford but I can't afford much right now.
