I have used a few Hot'n'Tots and they're one of dozens of crankbaits that I've used that have caught fish. One started running off to the side and I found it impossible to tune. That's not to say they're not tunable; just that I couldn't tune it. These were the old metal lips. I understand they switched to plastic lips at some point.
Rapalas are fine lures; the original Shad Rap is my favorite crank. Yes, they're a little more expensive than some other brands. Maybe they're the costliest of what I'd call the "mass-produced" cranks, but just by $1 or so. Are they worth it? They are to me. I can't say they are more productive than other brands, just that I have a lot of confidence in them. There is no general answer as to whether they're worth it. Each person must make that determination for themselves.
