Default fooball jig

have a question the football jig what is the purpose for the spring, is there a special way to thread worm on hook, which is the best way to set-up using a spinning reel

I like fishing a 1/4 oz football jig on a spinning reel. Anything bigger I have to fish on my flipping stick. I personally never put a worm on my jigs except for bedded fish. Then I use a white jig with a purple worm tail. I try to make my jig combination in the spring more natural by matching my craw color with my jig color. I will dip the claws in chartreuse some times. That's not saying I won't fish a brown jig with a bubble gum craw or a brown jig with a black craw. You have to experiment with a jig until you find the right color combination. Hope this helps.

I believe the spring that you are referring too, is used to help lock the plastic trailer in place on your jig.

I think you are talking about a shaky head jig, with the spring keeper for your worm. That's the style that I make and I think it works really well. You basically put the worm head up against the spring and turn it to "screw" it onto the spring. If you are using worms that don't have a blunt end like Zoom trick worms I always cut off the first 3 or so rings so that there is a good base for the spring to penetrate.
