Default Trouble with clear waters

Clear water fishing sucks! I had 3 2lb bass sittin in front of me off the bank of Round Valley. I tried everything. The one hit my dinger and took it, I went to set the hook and it didn't connect. The fish were gone in seconds after this. Any tips for clear water?

I had to reread that first post. At first I read "hit my dinger and took it". Then I realized you were talking about a stickbait made by yum.

Last year I had a similar problem to this. I was in a Clearwater pond that if i got out of the boat id only be in ankle deep water the whole pond was like this. This pond had not been stocked but it had been there so long it was FULL of fish none over prob 5 lbs. though.

Well it was my first time fishing in it and it was great I could sit there and target my fish well id throw beside them they would follow it and it would get about 2-3 foot form the boat and my instinct was slowing down and when I did the fish would stop and turn around (not very aggressive fish).

After a few mins of this happening I finally got it to hit by when it got close to my worm I would stop reeling and slowly pull the bait and he would then hit it.
But then the other problems started I would go to set the hook and start reeling after I did and everytime I about got it to the boat the fish would jump out of the water and spit my worm back at me and no lie I bet this happened 15-20 times.

So then after all this I finally got the right technique going I would not set the hook straight up I would set it with my rod turned completely to the side and an up/angle motion and that technique finally landed a fish.

And on that day which was also during a lil town tournament I was in they only hit on a zoom worm in watermelon red flake. So maybe this will kinda help you to see what I did when I had a similar problem if not then you now know one of my fishing stories lol. Sry for long post.

gotta downsize and use realistic colors and stay far away from the bass in clear water.

dont let the fish see you.....dont make alot of noise.......wear camo or colors like that.....have natural color baits, and dont watch the bass when it hits....you will either set the hook too early or too late....just go by the feel.......

My favorite bass fishing lake is gin clear, just use realy light pumpkins that are tranperant. I had the most luck on watermelon tiki stiks and pumpkin centipedes and finnese worms on a splitshot rigs.

I've fished clear water most of my life and have done very well using zoom speedworms in watermelon/red minus the tails. Texpose the zoomie on a 2/0 hook and use it for a slowfall/deadsticking presentation. I cast to likely spot, let fall to bottom fishing the lure weightless, let set for 25 seconds, then lift slowly about 2 feet to feel for fish....if nothing, reel in at a Moderate Pace, and re-cast.

My wife casts to a likely spot, lets fall to bottom, places the line over her finger and under her thumb and waits about 15 seconds...then takes one s-l-o-w crank on the reel, then waits again for another pause of 15 seconds holding the line. She does this methodical retrieve until the lure has traveled ten to 12 feet, then reels in at a Moderate Pace.

We both do well.

Wow, thanks for the great itps guys. Also, I figured I might tell you the bottom is really rocky, so I tried a Baby Bass Ratltrap, no takers, I tried a Minus 1 crawdad pattern no takers. The Minus 1 my dad used was a parrot color, and the fish annihilated it, but the swivel broke, and off went my lure. Now he knows why I only do Direct tie!

Don't let the fish see you, so make long casts.

Punkin with chartruse worm works good here in the spring with clear water,

I know we hear the anglers out west fish in clear water quiet a bit, I would think downsizing and maybe the drop shot a 4 inch worm maybe the ticket

I will have to try it out next time JB, but then I will be on a boat, We got it painted. Now all that needs to be done is the electrical. We just got a brand new motor, and have the trolling motor ready. I cannot wait!

hey powerbass try to have the sun facing your back and cast straight, this way the when the bass looks in the direction of your boat the wont see it because of the sun

I'd agree with what most everyone else said. Long cast and use flourocarbon line. Natural colors are better like pumpkin and watermelon. On crankbaits I use clear colors. I like a speed shad or flat A. Also a shad rap is good. I'll also use a red treble on the front. Clear water is tough fishing for sure.
