Default New Biggest Bass!!

I went fishing at that same local pond, and found my five pund bass laying dead on the shore. I went down to the corner where i caught him last saturday, and pulled up a 7 pound bass!! My rod snapped in half trying to get him in so i pulled him in with line. He measured 26 inches, but not a lot of fatness to him. So Psyched!!!!

First off congratulations, and keep it up. Now as to the dead 5lber, I would like to know how quickly you got it in(how long was the fight), and how long did it stay out of the water? I have harped on this before, so I will get my soap box out again. Playing the fish with light tackle can kill these fish. I don't care who you are or how you like to fish, the facts have been documented by "Scientists". The longer the fight, the greater the chance for mortality. Now I don't want to accuse you or anyone else of this, I have no idea, but if in fact you did have to fight it awhile to get it in, then that "COULD" have created the problem. Always get them back in the water asap. Just think in a year or 3 that 5lber could have been another 7lber. On the other side of this, I must make a side note, is that fish die, they always will. It could have just been it's time. But if we as Bass fisherman take all the effort into cutting down on anything we can to keep the fish from dying, then you have to accept the fact that you will kill fish from time to time. OK stepping down now.

Reb,

That 5lber i cauht did not put up vermy much of a fight at all. I di not have him out of the water but 30 or 45 seconds befor i placed it back in. It really wasn't on light tackle, 15 lb. test, and a mh action baitcaster rod. Any more questions just PM me.

How did the fish die? Did you take awhile with pictures? Always remember that big bass are old bass and not as strong as some of the younger ones. I caught a 5lb 3oz this year which was blind in one eye and had a huge scar on its gill. Took two pictures and was released quickly. My father that same day caught a 5lb 8oz!
