Default Topwater bassin

I thought I would start this post as topwater bass fishing is in full swing in some parts of the country and on hold in other areas. The question I want to pose is when do you consider to be the start of topwater season? I'm sure it's different comparing southern bass waters to northern bass waters. I'm convinced that northern bass become agressive in water temps that are cooler than southern bass. Still, I really never try topwater untill at least after post spawn. Am I missing out on good topwater action? I've always viewed topwater as a warm water technique. The question is, what water temp would be the start of ideal topwater fishing?
