Default Fishing brush with a crank bait

Ok good tip time! When fishing crank baits and you want to fish some heavy structure try this little tip. Most crank baits you fish are a round nosed bait, they are good for fishing rocks, muddy bottoms, and gravel. But when you want to fish heavy structure such as trees and hard hang up areas try switching to a square nosed crank. Squarenosed cranks are designed to roll off structure as apposed to round nosed to dig into the ground and bump and jump. Square nosed bait displace more water than their counter parts. and are ideal for cold water bassin, and have a more slower action for those fat slow fish of fall . If you get the chance to try this out you will be surprised how "well" this works.

Rob, I'll try it but I still worry they will hang up. Any ideas as to which baits (brand Name) are good for this method?

If you still have trouble with hang up try cutting the leading hook on the trebble this will help cut down hang ups as well. Manns has some really good square nosed cranks, or coffin nosed do pretty much the same thing.

Robby. P.s go to the manns web site to check their stocks out.

There are several, Bob-Bandit and Strike King just to name two. Another trick is to not use your reel to move it into the cover-use your rod tip. Pull it in and reel down to it then pull it again. That way, if you hit something you can stop it and let it float up easier than you can reeling it in.

Sounds good, still working on consistent use of cranks. Love the ratltrap, still playing w/ the suttle bumps and bangs of a lipped crank. PS Zilla- should have a picture soon of a 6 pounder caught on the parrot crank. Got caught in a major downpour today though, hoping the camera will be okay.

Lots of times you can feel the brush and stop reeling and let the crankbait go backwards and float up, a deadly technique to provoke a strike

I like to use a Manns Minus 1, I will not hesitate to throw it into the logs in the water, around rocks, or just open water. Caught alot on Minus 1's

I still like the round nose type crankbait. I find the majority of square nose cranks have a lip too short to effectively protect the hook. I rarely get hung in brush or laydowns using Bomber 6a's or normans baby N's, and tend to get hung up a lot more the the shallow diving square nose cranks. The only coffin style lips that I know of are the old Poe's RC1's and RC3's. Are there others, if so please Post.
