grass and algae

saw the other post on grass, but i got a pond nearby with grass on the bottom and algae on top, cant find something to stay clean in those last 15 feet before shore (topwaters clog with algae, and anything even an inch below the surface starts getting caught in grass and the cast becomes useless), and thats the only place ive seen some bass hit was on the edges or within this cover. There's really no way to avoid it by fishing off a curve or anything, so what do you guys recommend for bait presentation in area like this. I'd hate to have to leave the place behind cuz in about an hour there today i saw 2 fish hit stuff on top of the water and had a bite i lost bouncin a worm slow and on the bottom coming up to this grassy area.thanks

A weightless soft plastic like a Tiki Stick. It comes across the stuff without getting all gunked up.

1. What rebasser said, but anykind of your favorite plastic weightless.
2. Mojo rigged plastic bait, lizards are nice along with senko's or any kind of worm.
3. As much as I dislike the hookup ratios, a frog would also be a good choice.
4. A spinnerbait run just below the surface making a small wake(almost like a buzzbait.
5. Mann's -1 crankbait, you color of preference.

I agree with Rebbasser and Lizarsrule. I fish these kinds of waters almost exclusively. Why? because most people ignore them because of their difficulty to fish. I throw a 6" white Strike king ztoo weightless and work it real slow across the matting. Don't worry about a quick hook set. I pulled a 4 pounder to the boat the other morning and it let go. The hook never was exposed. She loved it that much. If I'd had a net, I could have scooped her without hooking her. LOL

The frogs work pretty good across the top of the mat but like said before... you will miss more than you hook. I've also done well pegging a heavy bullet weight (enough to punch through the mat) and Texas rigging a worm or brushhog. You will have to get the slime off each time when you real it in but those bass will be under that mat and will hit it on the fall a lot of times.

Can't add anymore then whats been written. The last post is a technique I use often down here. A lot of Fl lakes will get a very large algae bloom through the summer. Get something to poke through it and you'll find fish. I actually look for holes in the algae from the gators popping through it, no gator- fish, gator-breaded and fried appetizer.

Rig it like a t-rig, except the eye of the hook will be in the middle of the worm. Pretty much same action, just no exsposed hook.
