Make Your Own Scent
Take some garlic powder,Liquid garlic, or anise, mix it into some petrolium jelly and put it in the microwave for a little, stir it up and jar it up. You can change the scent to almost anything you can think of.

Speaking of changing scents, has anyone HONESTLY ever heard of spraying W-40 on the bait?

I've heard of WD-40 being used on the great lakes by salmon fisherman.

We have some members here that swear by WD-40. I make my own sent all the time, especially after eating Taco Bell. Don't think it has helped me catch more fish though.

In the Kenai River up in Alaska, WD-40 was a popular scent for salmon until it was banned due to its toxic effects and oily-streaked waters.

scent
Two heaping tablespoons of garlic powder and one teaspoon salt mixed into two cups hot tapwater makes a water-based scent. Pour some of the mix into each baggie of soft plastics, re-seal and mush about. Let set overnight.
Being water-based, the water and scent will penetrate the plastics. Open the baggies and let dry, then re-seal. |
