Sorry to hear that Donald, that's one club I don't care if I ever get in. I rarely, hardly ever lip a fish with a crankbait in it's mouth. It's probably the only reason there is a net and a lip gripper on board. I try to subdue the fish a bit, grab it behind the head and remove the hooks FROM THE FISH with pliers. I've seen too many pictures of guys with hooks burried in a finger - chills my bones every time. Glad you're ok, but don't count on seeing me at your club meetings.

My method for treble hook removal from a bass is to grasp the hook with a pair of pliers. Once you have a firm grip with the pliers then procede to dislodge the hook. If the fish shakes trying to escape, the tight grip with the pliers makes it hard to get hooked. Sounds funny but works for me. You can shake the fish off if it's not to big.

Did that once many years ago but not on a fish. Found a popper on the lake that someone had broke off. Retrieved it and when loading the boat on top of an old station wagon, I threw the lure down in the back. Grass was wet and I slipped and fell palm down and got a treble hook in the heel of my hand.

Another fisherman came to my aid and clipped the hook form the lure. Trip to the immediate care center and the had to cut it out. Dr. said it was good that I didn't try to remove it myself as the hook was between the two tendons that operate the ring and little finger. If I had severed one of those I would have lost the use of a finger. Not something I ever want to do again for sure.

I do not lip bass caught on cranks. I will pick the bass up by the crank before I "apply" for that club. As a bass player, I learned to take very good care of my fingers.

Welcome to the club. Buried one past the barb a few weeks ago. Never though a dink bass could get me like that.

Draws a chill up my spine to hear hooked stories. Any of you tried the belly hold on a fish? I tried this a few times like you see the pros due when they pull a fish in. At first I kept thinking why doesn't the fish flounder when you touch him. But if you gently hold them in your hand under the belly, they don't flop too bad. And I can say I have only tried this on fish under 2#. But if you squeeze them in the gut in a grasp, they wil start to flop. But it reminds me of holding a rabbit. If you don't put your hand under their feet for support, you are in for a band-aid convention, but as soon as you support them, they usually stop. I don't know, just my point 02.

I am a two time member of this club. Once in my thumb and I got lucky that it went through on it's own so a pair of side cutters and I was back in business. And once in my shin and after finishing the tournament I went to the E.R.

This is not a good club to be part of lol.

Yeah the first time I learned that it hurts like hell. And the second time wasn't my fault. My tournament partner changed some treble hooks that morning before the tournament and thought he threw all of the old ones in the trash but somehow managed to leave one by the livewell. I kneeled down on it when I went to cull a fish lol.
