Ideal conditions-when you are on the water. It used to be reserved for cold water, but now are for year round use. I throw then when in and around flooded timber or use real heavy ones to punch through grass mats this time of the year. There are a wide variety of brands-the kind I prefer are those with a bullet shaped head-I think they come through the cover better than round head jigs.

get some Renegades from Walmart to start with because in order to fish a Jig efficently your going to lose alot of them and have to throw them in some pretty heavy cover. If you are fishing open water then I would suggest bango jigging them wich is hopping them off the bottom on a slack line. You should move the rod from the 9to the 12 or 1 on a mainly slack line and it should got tight when you get it to the 12 or so. It makes the jig jump strait up off the bottom and then you should lower your rod quickly to let it fall. Strikes are light doing this technique so be ready.

Also get yourself a very heavy rod for this technique because you will not have time to set the hook and sometimes will have to set it from the 12 or 11 position.

How about the line? I'd strongly recommend braid for jig fishing.
