Default Snowpants or Bibs?

Is there any good reason that I should buy bibs to replace the snow pants I have now for fishing in the fall/winter?

Bibs provide more coverage on your upperbody, so you tend to stay warmer. Also, bibs fit better because they are held up by suspenders. I absolutely love bibs, but depending on how much money you want to spend, it's probably not worth the difference if you're happy with your snow pants.

Another benefit to bibs is that you can opt not to wear a waterproof top (leave your coat off) and you can still sit down on wet/damp seats without getting the back of your shirt wet.

I can't think of a good reason to buy either one. But that's just me

I would recommend that you never buy a one piece bib set though, like an insulated coverall. they'd restrict your movement way too much

Joolz, bend over in a rain storm wearing your snow pants and you will wish you had bibs. The bibs eliminate any gap between the tops and bottoms of your rain gear.

Bottom line IMO-you will not regret getting bibs.

Default Back on topic....

I live in my bibs from November till mid March. Actually (for me) more comfortable than snow pants, because of no belt line.

The other advantage of the bib is you won't have to worry about sagging pants or a belt. I use the snow pants for snowboarding.

Enroute to a 360.

NOTE: IB probably can't pull off such a move at this time without breaking something.

I have a snowmobile suit that I've had for years....I used to ride my motorcycle in the winter so I needed something warm....that worked, and works pretty well for fishing in really cold weather, but if'n it ain't really, really, cold its overkill, and thats when I wish it wasn't a one peice suit and I could take off the top half instead of unzipping it and tying it around my waste.....but if its cooooold outside it is the bomb....lol

Edit: Yowza!!! Another resurrected post, and I didn't even realize that I already had a post in this thread! And I still said basically the same thing!

Depending on the whether conditions, one might be more convenient to use than the other. However, a simple set of suspenders will hold up those snow pants up very will, as if it were a bib.

I use suspenders to keep up my snowboard pants when I'm snowboarding so I know it works.

When I face super cold conditions, I use my neoprene waders. They're practically a bib and do much to help you stay warm. So there's a 3rd option! You won't get wet either.

I deffinately prefer the bibs, like mentioned before that sag factor is eliminated, goretex insulated bibs are the way to go. I've used suspenders on my gortex rain pants in summer but still prefer bibs for the comfort, and no rain gets down my backside when I have to bend over to lip a fish or when I sit down to go to another spot.

BIBS!!!!!!!! There are a lot of times when you can take off the coat when casting and have more room to move and stay warm.

Not all bibs are created equal...these are from North Face and I can use them fishing and snowboarding http://www.thenorthface.com/webapp/w...ariationId=001 They are incredibly warm, tons of pockets and zippers in convenient places

I wear coveralls and wish I had Bibs for all the reasons stated above plus if the day warms a little you can remove the parka and put on a lighter coat and still keep your legs warm. The coveralls are excellent for warmth, but they do restrict your movement when sit down to drive the boat.

I did end up getting the bibs and I'm glad I did. They're way tougher and waterproof. So comfy.

I have both. My first insulated Gore Tex jacket left my lower back exposed with the Gore Tex pants. Next Gore Tex was an uninsulated parka and I also got the bibs. Now when it's cold I wear the bibs with the insulated jacket and no problem with the lower back. When it's warm I wear the Parka and pants, the parka is long enough to cover lower back and the pants are more comfortable in warmer weather. I have two Gore Tex insulated jackets one hooded, two parka's a mid-weight and a light weight, and the bibs and pants. Mix and match to the temperature.
