Smallie Fishing at Lac Seul
Every spring we fish Lac Seul in Ontario (last week of May). While I target species are pike and walleye we catch more and more smallies each year incidental to fishing for the pike. This year I am going to spend time trying to catch smallies. Anyone have any tips on baits to use for that time period for smallies on Lac Seul? What line and test weight should I put on Shimano spinning reel?
Thanks NE Piker |

I've never been up that far, but I know hula has fished Canada, and robbies a native. Go light on the line, probably about 6 or 8# test. As for baits, try some tubes, and some crawdad imitations. Good luck!

Robzilla would be the guy to talk to-I think there are a couple of other guys from Canada but Robbie is the only one I can think of off the top of my head.

I fish lac seul during the summer, mainly for walleyes, but I actually targetted some smallies last year. Let me try to dig up and mark a map a couple of spots we had awesome success.

Ok, here ya go. I dont know which area you fish, but here is a zoomed out map with location, and a zoomed in map with location. It may be too far of a haul for you, but we fish vaughan lake, so its not terribly far for us.
I just used google maps and made a few marks on it. There is an island indicated on the maps, that has rocks running out two sides, making a very nice little bay. In the 2nd picture the grey marks are rocks, the green is vegetation, and the big red thing is a rock 2x the size of a car. its large . If water levels are low you could possibly scrape it. I just started throwing tradtional smallie baits in there, cranks, etc. Lipless cranks worked well too. Also threw some of my aunt zippies on light jigheads (kept them suspended a bit) and t-rigged some of my nanny beavers. I really emplore you folks not to share this information with just anyone. Im trying to be a nice guy, dont make me regret it please. IMAGES REMOVED. Person that wanted them got them. Last edited by mymomisbecky; 12-26-06 at 12:12 PM. |
