Default First Bass Boat

I am looking to purchase our first bass boat. My son, he's 12, loves bass fishing. We live in the Pacific NW, which isn't exactly a bass mecca but we have found a local club. Anyway, I really only want to spend a few thousand bucks, 3-4K to be precise. Can I get something that will do the job for this price? I'm going to check out a 16' 1982 Glastron bass boat with a 115 Mercury for $2200.00. Does anyone know anything about these boats? Does anyone have any suggestions about what boat I should look for. Thanks.

I know of the boat only by reputation, but any used boat should be examined carefully of course and a test drive would be highly recommended as well. Look at the motor closely, and ask for maintenance records if any. Check out the entire boat as much as possible, wiring, and trailer too. Do as much research as possible on used boats and hopefully you will end up with a well kept boat that will suit you're needs.
PS. Thats a nice motor for the size of boat, not too fast but plenty of get up and go.

Good Luck

My buddy has a newer glasstron, hes not had any trouble out of it hull wise or anything. Its mainly used in saltwater and he uses a large (IDK) Mercury engine. Seems fine to me, depending on what style your looking at, it might be a little much for freshwater bassn.

Ah the ole glastons. Used to own one myself. A 15 1/2ftr with a 85 Merc. Good boats, sturdy easy to drive but heavy. Thats the only downfall of them is that they are heavy but a excellant first boat. Have the motor gonne over and get a a compression check. Those towers of powers are great motors. I own 2 of them right now and wont sell em. Look the boat over and make sure you look in the cornes and hidden places. Should be a good buy.
