Default Topwater line

People here have suggested many different types of topwater lures. Even though I have yet to catch a fish on one (most due to my impatience), I like to fish the soft belly floating Scum frogs. What would be an ideal line for such a bait? Mono or braid? Red, yellow, green, clear?

FnG, what type of cover are you fishing? I use 12 lb mono for topwater plugs and such, but for frogs I have 17 lb floro and may go to braid when that gets bad.

My $0.02..

For poppers, spooks, and such 12lb mono, for anything fished over pads or heavy cover 30lb power pro have yet to try fluoro but plan on it soon .

Not a whole lot lily pad or "gunk" cover. I would do more fishing with the frogs in the morning near the banks with some overhanging tree cover. Throw in near the bank and pull it slowly into the water and pop it out from the bank or along the bank. I have 30# power pro green braid on one my ugly stick. Would mono be better if I am fishing with little to no cover? Also would I want clear line or a high vis color like orange or yellow?

The only true topwater I do much with is after dark or just right before dark. I really get some good topwater bite around then, and I don't think the line matters as much in low light. I am quickly becoming a fan of Power Pro. Spooled it on my baitcaster for the 1st time and really love it. 30# on baitcaster and 20# on spinning. I tried it after Jim80 and some of the guys ranted about it. Great stuff and its less expensive.

For spooks, pop r s etc, I use 20lb mono. For frogs in dense vegetation, 50lb suffix braid.
