Default Anybody use Abu Garcia Baitcasters?

I just bought my second baitcaster. It’s an Abu Garcia Revo SX- 6:4:1. I haven’t spooled it up yet but I’m going to put a super line on it. The guys at Cabelas raved about Suffix’s new braid and suggested nothing heavier than 20lb test. I’m not going whale hunting or anything like that so I don’t need the 30,50,80 test, but I do want at least reel spooled up with some good heavy stuff.

Just wanted to see what other Abu Garcia users think of their reel and what line you may use.

Holla back!

I started fishing with the 5500 and 4600 c3. I have a couple Revos. In my opinion they are the best real on the market. At there price they do everything I want. The 5500 can also be used for other stuff catfishing striper etc. I just dont think you can go wrong

I own a revo premier, and a revo sx. Looking to get a stx-hs for flipping and pitching. Best reels i've ever uesed IMO. Toughest drag on the market, casts a mile, reels smooth, feels great in your had. Could not ask for anything more.

well, I have a Black Max....its not as nice as the revos but it is still the farthest casting and smoothest reel i have and used...So i could not imagine how great the revos are. Abu garcia is on of the top makers out there.

i have several revo sx's and as of last night i added a revo winch to my arsenal as well. i have several different lines on them ranging from 10lb line for crankbaits to 50lb braid on my flipping stick. i also have 15lb flourocarbon on my jig rods, and 12lb mono several as well. i have had zero problems with a single revo and love them all. if this reel is gonna be used for a lot of applications then just find a good all around line and spool up with it. if it is for a specific application then you can get more critical with your line choice.

The guys at cabela's are right about the Sufix performance braid. It's my favorite. I use 30lb for baitcasters. It's still a bit overkill, but with some backing on the reel, it works great because it is the same diameter as 8lb mono.

Put mono on first for about 50 wraps and then the braid.

I have used ABU reels since 1965. The most reliable and best reels I have ever used.. but as with most manufactures there where a few bad ones..

For me it was the Black Max... The one touch ABU-Matic was a reel well ahead of its time. Just poorly made..

Thumb bar release jammed if it rained.. I replaced the entire assembly with another I got for parts and it still did it. Got it mounted on a crappie rod and sold it for 5 bucks..

Older style..

Round reel..

Abu makes some good reels. The Ambassaduer's have been around as long as Capt. Mike . The more recent Revo's are an upgrade to the Torno series which I've been recommending here for the last couple years. I own one Revo and 4 or 5 Torno's. All Abu's are pretty good reels. I've only had one that I didn't like due to the thumbbar slipping and engaging the reel during the cast.

garcia all the way pal. i have nuthin but garcias, except for one pinnacle baitcaster. i have 2 of the old mag force reels. one is now in the shop the FIRST mag I , the other magII is outta the shop and sorks like new. the black max you are referring to is one that mississippiboy has as well.
as for pound test line i use on my garcias...... 10 and 12 pound mono, 30 pound braid power pro. that is it for now.

i love abu garcia reels. want a revo, but that'll have to wait a bit.

i have the lower end revo s and i love it. i paired it with a saint croix 7 mh triumph and 12 lb suffix seige and have had no problems. i have thought about braid but i fish in clear water with little to no cover or grass so i stick with mono and floro most of the time. i have used shakespeare ugly braid and do NOT reccomend you use this for anything. it sucks to put it nicely. spend the extra on line and don't skimp out.

I've been using Garcia baitcasters as long as I can remember and have never been dissappointed in them. I have both Revos, and older round styles. Best darn reels out there in my opinion. I have a few other brand reels I like as well, but give me a choice between Garcia and any other brand, and it's Garcia for me.

As my reels die off I have been replacing them with Revos. I use them for everything except my swimbaits. You made a good choice.

Line choices - 14 to 20lb XT or 15lb Izorline Platinum.

To me there is not a better reel on the market than the garcias. I have 9 4600's and 4 pro max's and i've never had a problem with any of them. My next one will be a revo. As for line I use 15# to 20# trilene big game line.

I think you'll love the set up. C-rig 01. Did you get the Winch for deep cranks? I was trying to decide on the Winch or the new Curado low gear for that purpose.

I have only 1 baitcasting reel & it's ABU Garcia 4600C3 w/
5' 6" Conolon medium action IM7 graphite rod also by ABU Garcia
Spooled with 12# Berkley Trilene Big Game (Steel Blue)

It's a great reel, that I did just a little mod to when I cleaned it. No oil just white grease. I gave up some distance for almost no birdnests.

Pift! The cabelas guys are wrong! Don't go under 20, The highest I would go is 80lb, but imo the best is 30, it's thin diameter lets you cast as far a would with 6lb (I think that's the diameter), yet have the stregth of 30lb!

IMO, you should go with 30, or 40!

All my reels are Revo SX or STX's and a pair of Winch's with a Soron for dropshot and shakeyheads. Sufix is the way to go for line. Their mono, braid and flouro are top of the line. I recently took all my sufix off my reels on a recommendation that a buddy gave me... spooled up with Izorline, it's not bad line, in fact it's better than anything I've used before besides Sufix, so I'm gonna go back to Sufix... As far as line weight:

shallow to med crankbait rod: 12# mono
med to deep crankbait rod: 12# flouro
worm rod: 10# mono
C-Rig rod: 15# mono
spinnerbait/jerkbait rod: 12# mono
Jig rod: 50# braid
DS/Shakeyhead rod: 8# flouro.
