fishing "A" laydown
first off find a laydown.
now THIS is a laydown only shows about a 1/3 of it in this picture. the fish were piled up in here the currant was hammering this area. texas rig using 3/8-1/2 oz bullet sinkers hooked to 10'5" junebug or black/redflake worms and 4/0 ewg hooks.. exspect to break off a LOT.. between the 2 of us we lost a dozen rigs in this ONE laydown.. as always be nice and let the elder genteel catch the first fish.. man did these fish pull. 2 pound bass hauled like a 7 pounder once they hit the currant.. when all else fails fish rip rap. or bridges the of davie county then leave when it gets hot.. zooker

man the color of that water has "spinnerbait" written all over it!
so tell us, did ya pick apart that tree? what area ya start in ? I'd probably hit the treetop and work my way back to the bank, if it was a fallen tree, but I am guessing the current dictated where to fish first. You need to fish up here zooker, trees like that are a dime a dozen on the banks of brookeville and caesars, plus ya graph miles of stump fields too, some hold fish, some dont, but it all looks so great, it keeps ya pumped up all day...denny and me can fish rocks, and wood at both lakes at all depths, somedays ya get tons of fish, some days ya get a couple |

those kinda trees are fun to sneak up and throw the popR in, and if that won't yeild anything the spinnerbait works wonders...then its time to pick em apart with a worm/jig/tube/creature/lizard ......oh yea!

yeah ken there is a swamp-less than 2 feet deep- that extends back in the brush a mile right there. look carefully at the first picture. just behind the willow tree.. is another bridge butment the tree hides two more.
i would pass on a pop-r right now there is no real top water bite here.. zooker

seriously you could not fish it effectively with a spinner bait. you would be more hung up than anything. the currant -which the pictures don't show- is hauling it straight into the lay down. most of our fish came on in front of this mess there is probly twice as many trees you can't see out in front of the ones you can see. my partner hooked up a large bass it came up jumped headed for this mess he could not stop it broke him off..think of this i was using 40 pound braid and was having to break it. my partner was throwing 20 pound p-line and having to break it.. we were either hauling fish out or retying every 5 cast.. zooker

zooker,
ya can't even flip a spinnerbait in between the branches and work it back like 15-20 feet to the boat? |

If it was Power Pro you would have been able to wrench them out Zooker! (j/k just giving you crap, I broke a rod with it last weekend)
Looks like a great spot! What river is that on? My brother had good luck with a popR for a while in NC but in the last couple of weeks he said the bite is off for the top waters. |

which part of I could not work a spinner bait in there effective did you not fully understand?? this mess was like fishing a high currant train wreck. bender would have done the same thing with power pro to be honset the currant was washing the baits back into the mess.. trick was setting the hook and pullin the bait-fish and all- at least 7 feet. or they would burrow down in this stuff and either break you off or wrap you up badly..only top water bites i haveseen in this area were crappie. top water chugger bait bites have been off for a month or so..
