Default "the reel story"??

I was watching the Bill Dance 'reel story" on tv and he was talking about the reel's and he was say's like a million things about the gear ratio and the brake and the line and I got so confused with in 5 minutes or so and he was saying that these ittle thing's with the reels can trigger bits so I got worryed about my reels thinking maybe that is why I am not doing so good catching bass wise, so i thought i would tell you guy's my setup and you guy's could tell how to set them up and if they were ok or not.

1st rod is an Medium action ugly stick with a spinning Shakespear excursion reel with the gear ratio of 5,2:1 and 50lb powerpro briad.

2nd rod is a medium action ugly stick with a spinning daiwa regal-z 3600c reel witch does not say the gear ratio.

3rd rod is medium actin ugly stick with a basspro shop's extream baitcating reel with the gear ratio of 6.4:1

Any suggestions???
