Fishing in Florida where to go?
Hi Folks,
Can anyone tell me about the fishing in the Tampa area of Florida? My family will be going to Tampa in August and I was wondering about places to fish. Will be heading for Disney World so any fishing information about that area also would be greatly appreciated. Fresh or Salt ? Peacock Bass? Thanks for your help

No Peacock bass that far north. You have to go down to the Miami latitude to get into those.
But there is lots of great fishing, both saltwater and fresh in that area. I'm not qualified to talk too much about the saltwater opportunities, although I would suggest looking into snook fishing. But for freshwater, check out lake Tarpon - it is a well known lake in the tampa area. For the disney world area, check out lakes Toho, East Toho and Cypress.

Any pond holds bass. If you are wanting to take a day fishing, then some of the lakes already mentioned can be decent, just understand they are BIG. I would look into finding a river that runs into the Gulf, I'll do a little research myself for ya. They can hold Bass, Redfish, and Snook. All of those fish IMO are a lot of fun to catch. Many Snook will be caught on fishing the same type of cover as you do for bass, ie docks, laydows, with cranks, flukes, jerkbaits seem to be the most popular for them. Also some Gulp shrimp on jiheads or DOA shrimp work really well for me for all species. Above all else watch out for the low water we have down here. We have litterally been in a drought for the last couple of years, and many spots are unaccessible and dangerous.
